Short-term Inpatient Drug Rehab
Locating a Short-term Inpatient Drug Rehab facility.
Short-term inpatient drug rehab programs generally provide intensive addiction treatment like long-term drug rehab programs, but for a shorter duration. Just like long-term inpatient drug rehab programs, they provide 24 hour care. Short-term residential addiction treatment was originally delivered in a medical setting, but in recent years, is often delivered in a nonhospital setting as well. The short-term residential drug rehab approach was originally used to treat alcohol addiction, but with the sharp increase in cocaine use during the mid-1980s, the approach was modified to treat addiction to illicit drugs as well.

Do I Need Short Term Drug Rehab
Short-term drug rehab may be a good fit for less severe addicts; those with a short history of drug or alcohol abuse, those without a history of attempted recovery and relapse, or those with a very strong support base. For more severe cases, long-term drug rehab is more likely indicated.
The typical short-term addiction treatment program ranges in duration from 3 to 6 weeks and is often followed up with outpatient treatment or involvement in support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). As with long-term residential drug rehab programs a variety of addiction treatment models may be used. A commonly used model is the 12-step model. A program using the 12-step model might include 3-6 weeks of intensive addiction treatment and then participation in an outpatient program using the 12-step model and involvement in a self-help 12-step group like AA or NA. Short-term drug rehab programs may use other approaches to treatment such as delivered in a medical setting or programs using the behavioral, moral or biophysical models for addiction treatment.
As with other types of drug rehab, there are a variety of approaches to addiction treatment in short-term drug rehabs and a program that best fits the individual addict’s needs should be selected. Short-term drug rehab programs share the same goal as other types of drug-rehabs; long-term abstinence from drugs or alcohol and recovery from addiction. The specific addiction treatment offered by an individual short-term drug rehab will depend on the needs of the individual and the experience and addiction treatment philosophy of the treatment staff.
