Law enforcement places these groups at the top of their lists to stop for their criminal activities and profoundly negative effects on the state. Cocaine found in the state is of very high quality and cocaine remains a major concern for the state. 292 kilos of cocaine were seized in the state in 2006.

The number of admissions to Michigan drug rehabs for heroin abuse has remained consistent in recent years as well; 7,677 in 2003, 7,700 in 2004 and 7,554 in 2005. This speaks to the fact that heroin has been a significant drug-related threat to Michigan for some time. It comes from all over the globe and is available in the metropolitan areas of the state. South American, Mexican and African heroin are smuggled into Michigan in large measure. South American heroin is the chief variety seen in areas like Detroit, but Southeast and Southwest Asian heroin can be found in these areas as well. But the city is just a stop along the way for some heroin destined ultimately for other parts of the state and Ohio. 2006 federal drug seizures in Michigan resulted in the confiscation of 12 kilos of heroin.

This number is up slightly from figures that indicate that 567 individuals began Michigan drug rehab programs to address methamphetamine / amphetamine abuse issues in 2003. Methamphetamine is available throughout the state and parts of the state are seeing an upsurge in the quantity of methamphetamine available. Methamphetamine is manufactured in parts of the state and is Mexican methamphetamine is smuggled into the state. Michigan has had a high number of meth-lab incidents for the last several years. There were 200 in 2006 down from 341 in 2005 which was up from 157 in 2004. Almost ½ a kilo of methamphetamine was confiscated in the state and 2006.

People from all walks of life use the illicit drug. Some of the marijuana found in Michigan is smuggled into the state from Canada. This variety of marijuana appears to be more potent than some other varieties. But the majority of marijuana found in Michigan is from sources controlled by Mexican and African-American criminal drug groups. 6,762.4 kilos of marijuana were impounded during 2006 federal drug seizures.

Club drugs are common on college campuses and in other areas where young adults gather. 1,609,517 dosage units of ecstasy (over 65 kilos) were confiscated in Michigan in 2006.
