In the state of Utah, methamphetamine is the primary drug threat. Most of the methamphetamine is produced in Mexico and southern California and distributed throughout the state. Although the drug is the main threat in the state, methamphetamine lab seizures have declined over the past few years. Research shows that this decline is mainly due to new laws being enforced that require medications containing ingredients used in the manufacture of methamphetamine to be stored behind pharmacy counters. In 2006, law enforcement agencies seized 11 meth labs, most of them relatively small.

Club drugs such as MDMA and GHB are abused in Utah. They are commonly found in environments such as bars, clubs, parties, and rarely home manufacturing. Studies have shown a supply of club drugs being transported from the southwestern United States.

Through both Mexican drug trafficking organizations and local cultivation, marijuana also remains a threat in Utah and is widely available. Marijuana imports also occur from areas such as British Columbia and Canada. Local cultivation methods occur due to areas of fertile soil throughout the state. In the year 2006, 145 kilograms of marijuana was seized by federal law enforcement agencies.
